About this Course:

In this workshop, we explore the wider implications of the IFS journey with our parts.

We will consider:

  • How does IFS move from a healing modality where we are being with parts and healing the wounds from our past, to being part of a spiritual journey, where both healing and awakening are possible and how these processes overlap.

  • What practices, readings, or resources foster the process of IFS  being part of spiritual practice or path?

  • Understanding spiritual bypassing from an IFS perspective?

  • What thoughts do you have about psychedelics and the spiritual on the IFS journey?

  • How have Dick's own ideas of spirituality shifted since using IFS for himself and with clients?

Presenter: Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and an academic. Grounded in systems thinking, Dr. Schwartz developed Internal Family Systems (IFS) in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves.

He focused on the relationships among these parts and noticed that there were systemic patterns to the way they were organized across clients. He also found that when the clients’ parts felt safe and were allowed to relax, the clients would experience spontaneously the qualities of confidence, openness, and compassion that Dr. Schwartz came to call the Self.

He found that when in that state of Self, clients would know how to heal their parts. A featured speaker for national professional organizations, Dr. Schwartz has published many books and articles about IFS.
